Silk Hydration Face Lotion SPF 30

The Silk Hydration Face by Hawaiian Tropic is a moisturizing facial sunscreen.

It is easily found at most drugstores. I purchased mine at Ulta for $9.99.

I couldn’t wait to get my hands on it after watching Dulce Candy rave about it in one of her favorites videos on Youtube.

It’s marketed as being oil free and water resistant.

I can’t speak to its water resisting capabilities, but found the formula to provide a decent level of hydration.

Where I absolutely disagree with the folks at Hawaiian Tropic is calling the scent “subtle”.

The Swirls in the product are meant to be a combination of silk protein and Shea butter.

I’m unclear as to how topical protein can aide with sun protection, but Shea butter is a tried and true method for moisturizing and healing the skin.

The product itself is fine, but the scent is anything but subtle.

Shea butter has a very distinct, potent, and lingering scent. Now imagine if the scent was stuck to your face all day.

This might be selling point for some, but others may go running for the hills at the thought of having Shea butter stink stuck to their face all day.

The first day I used this my co-worker walked over and asked if I had changed my perfume or shampoo.

I said nothing.

He said “you smell different”.

I said “good different or bad different?”

He said “ just different”.

So I’m not saying it’s good or bad, but noticeable.

You might want to take a whiff before making the purchase.

At 1.7 fluid ounces it is very travel/purse friendly.

The thick consistency keeps it from seeping out of the pump.

Unlike most dense sunscreens it doesn’t require much elbow grease to work into the skin.

I like it as a facial cream, but opt to wear it on days when I don’t have t pile on other layers of makeup on top.

Personally I love this as a hand cream with sunscreen.

It’s a cheaper alternative to the Supergoop hand cream. It leaves a slight residue, but that’s hardly a deal breaker considering it’s a third of the price.
