The Ginger Souffle Whipped Body Cream by Origins is something I should love (on paper) but cannot stand (in person).
It’s your run of the mill body cream. Like the name claims, it is lightweight and whipped. It’s like a body butter in that it comes in a tub and moisturizes. It’s unlike a body butter in that it’s not dense and doesn’t require upper body strength to apply.
It sinks in nicely, is moderately moisturizing, and doesn’t leave behind any residue. It sounds like it’s a winner, right? Not so much!
All the good is negated by the super offensive smell.I generally love fragrance. I love when my sheets smell like my perfume or lotion. This, however, is not a scent I would want lingering anywhere.
I’m not sure what the folks at Origins think ginger smells like, but this highly synthetic and pungent smell is not it.
It’s unfortunate, because I find myself not reaching for the product in anticipation of the smell.I was surprised by my reaction to this product, given its widespread popularity amongst YouTubers and beauty bloggers. Interestingly enough the scent which I find to be a negative aspect of this body cream is a major draw for others, so it’s definitely not a one size fits all reaction.
Availability/Store: Origins, Sephora, Macy’s department store
Scent: Pungent/sour
Color/Texture: White/light lotion
Size: 6.7 fluid ounces/200 ml
Shelf Life: 24 months
Price: $31.00
The Verdict: I will definitely not be repurchasing this product. 31.00$ (or 14.00$ for the smaller size) is a ridiculous amount of money for the level of moisturization delivered. I wouldn’t repurchase even if I loved the scent. I generally love Origins, but at this point I’m just trying to finish up the tub to get my money’s worth.
