Sometimes, natural products like the Exfoliating Cleanser by Befine, make it really hard for you to love them.
I think today’s consumers are savvy and conscious enough to opt for the “natural” option, if the natural option is effective.
We don’t just haphazardly scrub ourselves and pile on potions and lotions. We all want to be hygienic and feel pampered. It doesn’t hurt if in the process we manage to fight off some fine lines and keep our youthful, supple appearance intact.
For me personally I would much rather achieve all that using more natural ingredients. I tend to use the word natural in quotation marks because what I really mean to say is “less processed”. It’s true that this scrub is mainly composed of brown sugar, almonds, and oats, but I can’t imagine that it’s not somewhat processed. If I were to make a similar concoction at home I would end up with a mushy mess. I’ve had this scrub for almost a year. The sugar granules have managed to remain intact. This is purely speculation on my end, but I suspect something must have been processed at some point to preserve the natural ingredients. Hence my preference for the term less processed.
Moving on to the actual product. It’s a basic scrub with a toothpaste-like consistency. It’s similar to the cult classic St. Ive’s Apricot Scrub in that regard.
My two main points of contention are:
1. It hurts!
2. It is one of the most drying cleansers I’ve ever used.
The sugar granules feel like rubbing sandpaper on your face. What’s odd is that it goes from being really rough to melting within seconds. It’s a cleansing hit and run. It hurts and then disappears.
I learned about this brand from watching Ingrid’s review a very long time ago. She too has oily, sensitive, acne prone skin and loved the scrub. Clearly, people with similar needs can react very differently to it.
Exfoliating Cleanser, I really want to love you. You are “natural”, meant for sensitive skin, don’t contain artificial colors, and were not tested on animals.
In theory, I love you. In reality, I really don’t see how we can make this work.
