The Klorane Quinine with Vitamin B range is intended for stimulation of hair growth and reduction of hair loss. The line is made in France and can be very hard to find in U.S. stores. Most Duane Reade stores in New York City carry the line and it can be easily purchased online.
The active ingredient in this line is quinine, an extract derived from the red quinquina tree, which can strengthen the hair bulb and stimulate growth. Adding vitamin B complex is intended to amplify the fortifying abilities of this line.
You can’t really go wrong with Klorane as a brand. It’s a solid French Pharmacy staple, so mild and gentle that it could never be offensive. The opposite of offensive, however, is not effective. Granted, one bottle of shampoo is not going to result in a head of hair that belongs in a shampoo commercial. Still, unlike skincare one can generally see the effect of shampoo right after the first wash.
In my experience, this shampoo/conditioner duo left my hair feeling stringy and dry. The shampoo feels drying and the conditioner is so thin and runny that it is not capable of counteracting the drying effects of the shampoo.
This is partly due to the fact that the shampoo is silicone free and lacks the lubricating properties that more chemical-happy shampoos have. Nonetheless, when something doesn’t result in desirable outcome, I find that I tend not to reach for it as much, regardless of how awesome it might turn out to be.
Color/Texture: Shampoo: red wine-purple color/very thin and runny
Conditioner: pale pink/think lotion
Size: Shampoo: 400 ml, conditioner: 150 ml
Shelf Life: 12 Months
Price: Shampoo & conditioner: 15.00-20.00 USD (depending on place of purchase)
The Verdict: I like the product enough to continue use until I’m finished, but I will not repurchase. I really like the brand overall, but this specific combo did not wow me, especially considering the price.
