Altuzarra for Target launched on Sunday, September 14th both online and in most Target stores.
The collection consists of a multitude of items including blouses, belts, dresses, scarves, shoes, skirts, and even a couple of Burberry-like trench coats.
The items range in price anywhere between $17.99 for a top to $89.99 for the trench coats.
I was very much looking forward to the Altuzarra line. Of course, by the time I made it to my local Target on Monday most items were either sold out or heavily rummaged through. I didn’t rush over because I wasn’t particularly thrilled with any of the designs previewed on Target’s website. I was slightly more disappointed when I saw the pieces in person. There isn’t anything fundamentally wrong with the items, but what is it exactly that’s supposed to make them special?

I was underwhelmed by the quality of the fabrics (mainly thin cotton, jersey, and heavy polyester). I also didn’t find the prints or designs to be particularly unique or eye catching.
All of the reviews I’ve read and watched so far have raved about the quality. I’m not exactly sure if my standards are too high or if other people are easily impressed. The truth is probably somewhere in the middle.
Nonetheless, I am disappointed because Joseph Altuzarra is an amazingly talented designer. A former intern of the great Marc Jacobs, Joseph’s designs are wearable, yet embody modernity and confidence.
Of course, everything looked amazing in the ads starring Eva Herzigova, but I suspect she didn’t have to rely on the clothes for that.
